The Barghouti-Gosey Foundation was founded in 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic where we founded our first project, Michigan COVIDsitters. We always had a goal to grow a non-profit organization, but thought this venture would come later in life after we were established as physicians. However, we saw a need now and wanted to build an organization that fosters pre-medical and medical students on their journey to becoming doctors.
As fourth year medical students we realized how important it was to have great mentors in place to help us reach our goals. We thought back to our undergraduate education and early years in medical school and knew having a mentor in place could have relieved many of the stressors that affect pre-medical and medical students. The ultimate goal of the Barghouti-Gosey Foundation is to build a mentorship connection program for pre-medical and medical students. We hope to especially connect students of minority backgrounds to mentors who have similar experiences.
Though this ultimate goal may take some time to accomplish, we are very excited to announce our first ever Minority in Medicine Scholarship Fund. Thank you to our wonderful supporters who helped fund this scholarship by the purchase of the BLM pins from out Pins That Give Back program and the RUSM RARS club.
The Barghouti-Gosey Foundation Scholarship Fund aims to build a community of successful minority doctors who support and uplift future minority medical students. The Barghouti-Gosey Foundation Scholarship recipients help pave the way for aspiring minority medical students’ success through mentorship and acts of service.
